Irving "Pop Louis" Cobbs, 77 , of Scottsville, passed away on Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital.
He was born on October 25, 1946, a son of the late Paul Irving Cobbs and Emma Baber Pitkitan.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded In death by his wife of 47 years, Janet Marie (Dolan) Cobbs, and a brother, Paul Irving Cobbs, Jr.
Survivors are two children, Michael Cobbs and Stacy Kirby (Gary) both of Scottsville; five grandchildren, Josh Kirby (Chasity) , Dillan Cobbs, Dalton Cobbs, Malcolm Cobbs, and Lila Cobbs; a sister, Paula Edwards (Lewis) ; two step-grandchildren Alaina and Trevor Cawthorne; a number of nieces, nephews, and other extended family members; close friends; Helen and Dennis, Maxine and Marvin Ripley; and his beloved dogs Rosie and Daisy.
"Pop Louis" dedicated many years working at CSX Transportation as a foreman on the railroads.
"Pop Louis" was a giving man with a wonderful heart. He would do anything for his children and grandchildren as they were his world. He was well known throughout the community with many friends. If he wasn’t out eating at Lumpkins with some good friends then you could find him at home watching old western shows.
A memorial service will be held at 11AM on Tuesday March 5, 2024 at Antioch Baptist Church in Wingina, VA with David Vogt leading the service. Inurnment will be private.
The family will receive friends from 6PM- 8PM on Monday March 4, 2024 at Thacker Brothers Scottsville Funeral Home
