Lorene Moore Obituary

Lorene (Bowling) Moore, 94, of Palmyra, passed away on February 19, 2024, at her daughter’s home on Shores Road.

She was born on September 17, 1929, in Virginia, a daughter of the late John and Virginia (Marrs) Bowling.

In addition to her parents she is preceded by her husband, John “Earl” Moore; a son Stephen Earl Moore; two grandchildren, Jason Randolph Butler, and Faith Marie Moore.

Lorene is survived by a brother, Johnny Bowling (Mary Jane); a sister Violet Craig; two daughters, Darlene Butler (Harold), and Linda Moore; two sons, Dwayne Moore (Barbara), and Michael Moore (Cassandra); five grandchildren Brian Butler (Melissa), Christen Pugh Proctor, Tasha Humphries (Jon), Joey Moore, and April Hyde; five great-grandchildren, Christiane Butler, Hailee Butler, Leigha Metz, Kristen Colbrath, and Stella Hyde; two great-great grandchildren, Jaxon Metz and Payton Metz; and many more family friends she was loved by all.

She loved watching tv her favorites were wrestling, Sunday morning sermons, and soap operas. She also enjoyed reading books and the newspaper, sitting on the screen porch enjoying nature, such as the birds and the flowers. Music brought an energy into her life; country music was her go to. Most of all, Lorene loved her family, cooking for them and providing for them. This is why her favorite time of year was Christmas.

Lorene was a dedicated employee for 25 years at Uniroyal Goodrich in Scottsville, VA. People in her life and community knew and called her “Mama”, “Nannie” or “Nannie Moore”. Her faith was strong and her love for the lord even greater than words can express.

The family would like to thank Hospice of Virginia for all their care over the past year and a half. Another special thank you to her aide Cora and her nurses Taylor, Patricia, Bethany, Donna, and Debra. All their compassion and love everyone had for her could not be more appreciated.

They would like to express gratitude to Dr. Baker and Dr. Lanford for all their years of care.

Lorene’s daughter, Darlene Butler, was her mother’s caretaker for many years. Without her love and care Lorene wouldn’t have had such a fulfilling and long last couple of years.

In addition to all the medical care over the years one thing that kept Lorene going was the love she had for her children and grandchildren. They describe her as always smiling and happy. Even though her body had weakened; she was always optimistic. She was determined to walk again- now she is walking with the Lord.
