David Lee "Dave" Spradlin, 55, of Albemarle County, passed away December 13, 2011 at his home. Born September 5, 1956 in Charlottesville, he was the son of Wilma H. Spradlin and the late Raymond L. Spradlin. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Teddy J. Spradlin. In addition to his mother, survivors include a son, Mikie Spradlin and wife, Lisa and their children, Landon and Madison; a daughter, Leigh Anne "Bitsy" Adcock and husband, Todd and their daughter, Parker; the mother of his children, Jean Spradlin; his siblings, Liz S. Farmer and husband, Steve, Eddie Ray Spradlin and wife, Penny, Anne Breeden and husband, Melvin and Tracy Seale and Edy Bug Shiflett; a number of nieces and nephews; a loving companion, Kathy Ann Hughes and her children, Chrissy, Tommy, and grandson, Little Thomas; and his dogs, Nubbie and Trooper. Dave was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and riding horses with his family and friends. He was always willing to go the extra mile to lend a helping hand. He usually began his day at the local "hangout", the 620 Market where he had lots of stories to share that often provided folks with a unique nickname. The family will receive friends at the Lake Christian Church at Lake Monticello from 6-8 pm Thursday, December 15, 2011. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, December 16 at The Lake Christian Church with Pastor Randy Golladay officiating. Dad, I wanted to write you a letter to remind you of all the fun times we have had together. Where Do I start? I wanted to remind you of all the times you would take me squirrel hunting and running the dogs with you even though I wouldn't be quiet. I wanted to remind you of all the fun vacations we took. There were so many; the jaunt bus to the beach trip, the clearing of the van's throat trip to Niagara falls, and the many trips to Kenton, Ohio. Oh the jokes you and Ben played on each other. I remember when I didn't want to go to school in the first grade and mom would fight with me every morning. You finally told me I didn't have to go. You said if I were that sick I could ride with you in the wrecker and you would take me by the hospital to find out why I was sick. Thanks but never mind I'll go to school. I wanted to remind you of the time everyone was going 4 wheeler riding, but you took two pregnant girls, grandma and Landon for ice cream instead. As I sit here remembering all the fun times we had together I just have to wonder two things.... What are we going to do on Thursday?, and is that UPS Truck ever going to bring that package? So pay attention to what your doing and sack your self up! Good Night Dad, I love you! Your Bull.

Some days get pretty quiet on my farm, but out of the blue, no matter what day of the week, Dave might ride up on a horse and buggy and brighten my world. He would do anything you needed, even when you didn't ask. I could walk out anytime and find my driveway scraped, just because he thought it was time. He was just one of those good neighbors, and never asked for anything in return. I will miss the horse and buggy the most for sure, and his ever bright and smiling eyes.

Dave was one of the good guys. He lived life with a true spirit of generosity and kindness, spiked with a whole lot of mischief and adventure that made him a unique friend. My sympathy to his family. Please know that there will remain a lifetime of Dave stories.

I have so many wonderful memories of this gentle soul. I met Dave probably when I was 16 years old. In fact, my first car was bought from Dave, a Datsun B210, the ugliest car ever. I remember going to the junk yard it seemed like every weekend with Jessie's Dad. It was just the place all the 'boys' wanted to hang at that time. And then, of course, the rides in the 'big' bat mobile to the rodeos--those were the best. I will never forget when I worked at 620, I would always know when Dave pulled in because he would always say "turn the gas pumps on girl". I always wondered if he really knew my name because "girl" was all he ever called me. Then I bought my next form of transportation--yes thats right a horse. A horse from Dave Spradlin.....oh my goodness the memories I have of those good times. When you rode with Dave you never knew when the ride would end. It could be a 2 hour ride or a 10 hour ride--no matter what you had better be prepared to be gone all day or night. Dave, go rest high on that mountain where there is no pain and suffering. You will be missed by so many but will forever be in our hearts and minds. With Love, Kim (Spradlin) Gibson

To Liz, Eddie, Mikie, Leigh-Anne, Jean & Kathy, we are so sorry for your loss. Dave was a great man who always would lend a helping hand. I remember the parties we use to have and I would call to invite him and before I knew it there would be tables in the yard he had delivered without even asking. Such a great friend to have live nearby. He will be missed by many and we all know Woodridge will not be the same. One more angel looking out for us. David & Ethel Garrison

To Dave's Family...Dave was a great friend and neighbor. He did alot for my family. He looked out for the "old Man", Papa Armistead for years and was one of the only faithful friends left in his life to the end. Dave had a mischievious twinkle in his eyes...and you knew it was going to be fun around the corner! He will be truely missed by many. Nancy Thacker Hicks

Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. I met Dave through Bobby, we would go to the junk yard and get car parts. Dave would allow my children to get all the keys out of cars, they loved it. It was just a few months ago that Dave was sending the tractor down to help us with renovating 620 market. Dave always lent a hand and helped out. Dave you will surly be missed, and that big smile. RIP Penny Morris

David, I have so many memories of us growing up that I can't pick just one. From the yearly vacations we all took (bear poop and all) from the time we were little to being neighbors for the last 32 years. I'll miss our rides together, calling you up to tell you that one of your horses was "visiting" our house, or just knowing that you were just up the hill. I'll miss your smile. Your "hey there girl" greeting. You'll never know just how many lives you touched just by being you. I know that you are now free of pain and I'll hold your memory close until we meet again. Miss you, Squeaky

To Mikie, Bitsy and all the Spradlin Family and Friends, As I sit and stare out into space my heart is heavy on this very sad day. A Father, a Grandfather, a Son and a great Friend to all has made his journey to heaven today. We all know him as Dave Spradlin. I see Dave up on his horse with a rooster under his arm, pulling his old junk car and heading into the bright sunlight. As he rides, he sees those who have already made this journey waiting for him with open arms and smiles on their faces. Pop, Ted and Uncle Bill; how happy they are to see him again. As he rides towards the bright sunlight, his heart is heavy knowing that those he has left behind are broken hearted and saddened that he is making his journey. But Dave knows that he left his mark on each and every life that he touched. Remember all, Dave lived life on his terms and to the fullest. Keep your memories close to your heart for they can never be taken away. Our love to all of you, Butch and Betty

What a great neighbor to have! I will never forget the first Time I met the "notorious Dave Spradlin" when I was looking for a house in Woodridge. Many times I would just mention something I needed to get done and the next thing I knew, it was done, and never a bill. He will be sorely missed!

I have known Dave and grew up with all of the Spradlins. He will be sorely missed for he was one of the funniest and giving people I have ever known. We had our moments when I was his bartender...lol... however we always laughed about it later and he always tipped us well. So sorry for your families loss but be at peace that he is out of pain now and with so many loved ones who were taken from us all. We will all meet again.

Dear Dave, Thanks for the old car hood that we used for a sled, when I was young. Thanks for letting me use your 4-wheelers to go riding with Mikey and Wayne. Thanks for the trip to the state fair, it was my first time. Thanks for helping me find a car. Thanks for getting that car out of the ditch, again and again. Thanks for all the laughs at Lake Fest. Most of all, thanks for being Dave. The world will never now another man like you. Woodridge will never be the same. You will be missed.

For over 25+ years we conducted all types of business on a hand-shake; and as it was with his dad, Raymond, it was his bond. There was never not the offer of help. Dave was a trusted friend, whom I shall very much miss. My thoughts go out to ALL in Dave's family, loved ones, and friends. Gary Merrill - Slate Hill
