Richard L. Spradlin

Richard Lindsay Spradlin of Woodridge and Buckingham County, died on Monday, November 2, 2015 at his residence.

Known to family and friends as “Dickie,” he was born the third son of Richard Melvin and Edith (Pace) Spradlin on the 4th of July, 1945.  Dickie would joke about his “huge” birthday celebration.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Brian Ray Spradlin and his nephew, Michael Scott Spradlin.

Survivors include the mother of his children, Shirley Haislip Spradlin; two sons, Richard Glenn Spradlin and Earl Franklin Spradlin and his wife, Denise; a daughter Fonda Kaye Herring and her husband, Dennis; three brothers, Edward “Duck” Spradlin and his wife, Peggy Herndon Spradlin, Herbert “Fuzzy” Spradlin and his wife, Alice Currier Spradlin, and Wallace “Midge” Spradlin and his wife, Judy Golladay Spradlin; two grandsons, Kevin Moore and Joey Herring; great-grandchildren, Wyatt James, Khloe Marie, and Delaney Rose; a nephew, Matthew Shawn Spradlin; a niece, Reva Mae Spradlin; and a number of other extended family members and friends.

Dickie was an avid fox hunter and deer hunter.  He was a member of the Woodridge Sportsman Association and a member of New Bethel United Methodist Church in Woodridge.  He hunted with and enjoyed the friendship of special friends, Nolan Saylor, Eddie Spencer, Jimmy Weeks, Floyd Monroe, and Fred Bibb, just to name a few.  Dickie loved to ride and jump horses when he was a young man.  He made friends wherever he went and never met a stranger and will be missed and remembered always.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Thursday, November 5, 2015 at Thacker Brothers Scottsville Funeral Home by the Reverend James Jetton and Reverend Randy Golladay.  Interment will follow in the Scottsville Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM, Wednesday, November 4, 2015 at the funeral home.

Thinking of each of you in your loss of Dickie. We got to know him in 1998 when we owned Midway Market. He was a regular customer and always talked about Woodridge, hunting and fishing...We sold Midway in 2006 and we have not seen him a lot since then. A good man who we were always glad to have him as a customer and friend.
