Mrs. Alease Jones Harris, 90, of Scottsville, departed this life on Saturday, July 4, 2020, at her home with her children by her side.

Alease was born on February 18, 1930 in Howardsville, a daughter of the late Deacon William Henry Jones and Sister Ruth (Amos) Jones.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Samuel Joseph Harris; her sisters: Cora Belton, Lucy Randolph, Lena Pauline Allen, Ruth Harris and Catherine Johnson; her brothers: Samuel Jones and James Jones; and one grandchild: Christina Harris.

She joined the Salem Baptist Church at an early age. She was a loyal and faithful member.  She attended church regularly for many years until her health failed.  Alease was active in the church where she served as a Deaconess, was a member of the Choir, and served on the Missionary and Usher Boards.

Alease graduated from the Buckingham County Training School in 1949.  In 1952, she married Samuel Joseph Harris and from that union they had four children, Joyce, Daniel, Linda, and Samuel. In 1966, she completed the Nursing Assistant Program at Martha Jefferson Hospital where she worked for many years.  After leaving Martha Jefferson, she worked for Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University as a Community Outreach Worker.  In 1982, she received her Nurse Aide Certificate from Piedmont Virginia Community College. After receiving it, she provided in-home patient care for multiple home care agencies until her retirement.

Alease was an active member in her local community for many years.   She worked with the Scottsville Rescue Auxiliary, Albemarle County Fair Committee, Scottsville Voter Registration and many others.

She leaves to cherish her memories: her children: Joyce Bates (Ernest), Daniel Harris (Joann), Linda Harris, and Samuel Harris (Kimberley); her sisters: Olivia Hedgeman, Mary Ayers, and Katie Davidson; a brother: Rev. Herbert Jones (Addie); eight grandchildren: Daniel Harris Jr., Talena Woodson, Christopher Bates, Joseph Harris, Michelle Bates, Stephanie Brooks, Jessica Harris, Grant Harris; six great-grandchildren; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and her “Little Angel on Earth,” her niece: Phyllis Williams.
