Alfred William Anderson

 Alfred William “Jack” Anderson, of Lake Monticello, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother, entered his Heavenly home on Saturday, January 2, 2021.

Jack was born in Irvington, NJ to the late Harry and Emily (Burnett) Anderson on August 8, 1932.   After serving in the Army during the Korean War, Jack married the love of his life, Eileen Garrigan, in February 1955. Jack was employed in his family’s overhead garage door installation business, and later owned his own garage door company.

Jack was active with the Union, NJ Rotary Club for many years. He served as President, and was named a Paul Harris Fellow by the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International.

Upon retiring, Jack and Eileen moved to Lake Monticello in 1997.  Always a man with a strong work ethic, Jack began a second career working as a golf range attendant at Farmington County Club, until retiring a second time at the age of 83. He loved meeting new people, staying active, and having a sense of purpose.

Jack was an avid NY Yankees and Giants fan. He enjoyed traveling, working on crossword puzzles, gardening, skiing and golf. Attending concerts by the Charlottesville Municipal Band and live theater productions were Jack’s favorite entertainment. Jack also enjoyed volunteering at Fluvanna Meals On Wheels yard sales, attending church (especially listening to Eileen sing with the choir), and spending time with friends and family.

In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his brothers, Harry and Eddie, and sisters, Kay, Carol, Agnes, & Irene. 

Jack leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 65 years, Eileen; children: Gary (Johanna) Anderson, Dawn (John) Kaltenbach, and Cindy Anderson; grandchildren: John and Michael Anderson, Casey and Zachary (Jody) Kaltenbach, and Morgan and Adriana (Keith Silverman) Cohen; great-granddaughters: Harbor & Finley Kaltenbach; sisters: Ruthie (Sal) Luizza  and Patty Barradale; brothers: Bobby (Eileen) and Allan (Joanne); and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jack will always be remembered for his love and devotion to his family, the pride he took in his work, and the joy he received in helping others. We will forever treasure our memories of Jack, and will love and miss each day.

A memorial service at Palmyra United Methodist Church will be held at a later date.
