Avis "Vicki" Victoria Birckhead

Avis Victoria Birckhead, 71, affectionately known to most as Vicki, of Scottsville, earned her wings on Monday, June 10, 2025, at home with her loving family by her side.

She was a wife, mother, daughter, sister and a friend to many people who loved and cared for her.

Born on July 27, 1953, in Virginia, to the late James William Johnson and Hattie Elizabeth (Dudley) Johnson. Throughout her childhood she enjoyed being outdoors and spending time with her family and friends. She attended and graduated from Fluvanna High School. After graduation, Vicki went to work in the banking industry as a Customer Service Representative. After her time at the bank, she worked for Grand Furniture until her retirement.

Vicki married the love of her life on December 8, 1984, Roger Daniel Birckhead. Together they raised her son, Ryan Butler, and continued a beautiful life. Vicki loved being outdoors, especially mowing her grass and picking flowers. She loved to browse yard sales and to help others. It was her family that held the key to her heart. Any time she got to spend with them was precious to her.

Vicki leaves behind her beloved husband, Roger Daniel Birckhead; her son, Ryan Butler and his wife, Helen; her grandsons, Christopher, Cole and Jacob Butler; and her sister, June and her husband, Dale.

The family will receive guests from 6:00pm – 8:00pm on Sunday, June 15, 2025, at Thacker Brothers Funeral Home, 650 Valley St. Scottsville, VA 24590. A graveside service will be held at 11:00am on Monday, June 16, 2025, at Cunningham United Methodist Church Cemetery, 3369 Thomas Jefferson Parkway, Palmyra VA 22963 with Pastor Randy Golladay officiating.
