Barbara SeDell (Martin) Cruise

Barbara SeDell (Martin) Cruise of Scottsville, 80, passed away on Sunday, November 20, 2022 at University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville.

Barbara was born in Ottawa, Illinois on Saturday, April 18, 1942, a daughter of the late Maynard and SeDell Martin.

In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her loving husband, Fred Rodney Cruise, and her sister.

Barbara completed her education at Augustana Academy in Canton, South Dakota where she sang in the choir. After graduation, she moved to Washington DC, where she met the love of her life. They were married on August 10, 1963 and made many happy memories until her husband’s passing. She had many roles throughout her life- daughter, wife, mother, sister, hairdresser, realtor, office administrator- and she did them all with patience, love, and grace.

Barbara is survived by her daughter, Sonja Dansey (Douglas); two sisters; a brother; two grandchildren, Jaimie Cruise and Wyatt Dansey; one great-grandchild, Kinley Taylor (and one on the way); and a host of family and friends that will always affectionately remember her.

There will be a Celebration of Life for Barbara hosted by Sonja Dansey at 1371 Beals Lane in Scottsville at 2:00 pm on April 8, 2023.
