Barbara Marie (Genthner) Haas, 87, formerly of Palmyra, Virginia, died on Monday, December 30, 2024, in Charlottesville at Rosewood Village Greenbrier Assisted Living.
She was born on March 7, 1937, in Saugerties, New York, a daughter of the late, Glenford William Genthner, Sr. and Anna Marie (Knor) Genthner.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 27 years, Richard Raymond Haas and a brother, Glenford W. Genthner, Jr.
Barbara attended school in Saugerties, NY, graduating in 1955 and worked at the family bakery, The Corner Bakery until its closing in 1973. She worked at Albany (formerly Heritage Savings) Bank from 1973 - 1997. She was a founding member of Grace and Glory Lutheran Church in Palmyra, and sang in many area choral groups, also serving as organist at several churches.
Barbara was an avid quilter and gardener and enjoyed traveling.
Survivors include two stepdaughters, Karen Marie Gerhart and her husband, Michael, of Ulster Park, New York and Erika Jean Haas and her husband, Roger Timm, of Wilmington, Massachusetts; five step-grandchildren, Kristie Gerhart and husband Adrian Koshy, Adam Gerhart, Scott Gerhart and wife Vanessa Gerhart, Carolyn and Audrey Haas-Timm. 5 great-grandchildren, Caleb and Abigail Gerhart, Carter and Nova Koshy. Her brother, Richard A. Genthner, of Freehold, NJ; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 10, 2025, at Grace and Glory Lutheran Church (683 Thomas Jefferson Parkway, RT 53, Palmyra, VA) by the Rev. William Strong. A graveside service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Culpeper National Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6-7pm on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at Thacker Brothers (138 Heritage Dr. Lake Monticello, VA) Funeral Home.
