Benjamin Joseph Hughes

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Benjamin (“Ben”) Joseph Hughes, aged 42, of Scottsville, VA on Saturday, August 5, 2023. Ben was born on April 29, 1981, in Richmond, Virginia, to his late father, Joseph “Joe/Jody” Hughes and surviving mother, Linda Jones Hughes.

Ben is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Herbert (“Hut”) and Lila Jones and paternal grandparents, Joseph and Margaret Hughes.

He is survived by his wife, Allison and children Graham (Staci), Evelyn, Molly & Miller Hughes; sister and brother-in-law, Candice and Ron Clark; niece, Kristen Ragland (Austin); nephews, Peyton & Dylan Clark; great-nephews, Easton, Trenton, Brooks and Lane Ragland; a dear great-aunt, Irene Hughes; and many other close friends and family including his life-long best friend Phillip Herndon.

Ben’s infectious smile, kind spirit and warm personality touched the lives of all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He had a way of making everyone feel cherished and cherished he was in return. Ben had an exceptional zest for life and lived it to the fullest whether it was fishing, kayaking, hunting, or spending time with his family. His passing leaves an immense void in the lives of his loved ones, but his memory will continue to inspire and guide us. Ben will forever be remembered for his infectious laughter, his genuine care for others, and the love he showered upon his family and friends.

Visitation will be Thursday, August 10th, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Fluvanna Baptist Church, 7454 West River Road, Scottsville, Virginia 24590.

The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 11, 2023, at the church by Pastor Alan Acree. 

To honor Ben’s legacy, the family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Fluvanna Baptist Church or Hospice of the Piedmont.
