Bertha Mae (Cochran) Herring

Bertha Mae (Cochran) Herring, 65, of Scottsville, passed away on Monday, June 27, 2022, after a brave battle with cancer, at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville, surrounded by her family.

She was born on May 10, 1957, in Renick, West Virginia, to the late Maynard Hill and Gracie Huldah (Holmes) Cochran.

In addition to her parents, Bertha was preceded in death by her two brothers, Marvin and Charlie Cochran; her stepson, Tony Herring, Sr.; and her brother in-law, Ray.

Mrs. Bertha obtained her GED from Piedmont Community College. She and her husband, Leo, ran a successful towing company together for several years up until their retirement. She had never met a stranger, to know her was to love her. She loved and treated everyone as family. She always made sure to have plenty of candy when you would visit, you would never leave empty handed! Bertha will truly be missed by all that knew her.

Survivors include her beloved husband of 38 years, Leo Thomas Herring, Sr.; four siblings, Hulda, Bernard, Maynard (Nancy) and Sam (Kathy); her stepchildren, Lucky, Jeff, Tammy (Johnny), Trent (Amy), Tommy Jr. (Lisa), Chris and Sharonda (Jason), whom she loved dearly; her special grandchildren that she would do absolutely anything for, TJ, Amanda, Trent, Jessica, Austin, Tricia, Samantha, Abigail, Lillian and Thomas; two special nephews, Robert and Roy; a niece, Brenda; her great nieces and nephew, Ryan, Roy Jr., Harley and Hope; five close friends who Bertha held close to her heart, George & Linda, Jimmy & Kim and Billy; her sweet, precious fur baby, Mae; along with a host of extended family members and friends who loved Mrs. Bertha dearly.

The family welcomes friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday, June 30, 2022, at Thacker Brothers Scottsville Funeral Home.
