Bessie Mary Carter, 67, of Howardsville, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 21, 2021. She was born in Buckingham County on June 12, 1954, a daughter of the late George Anderson and Dora Hocker.
Bessie worked as a chef at University of Virginia. She was an active member of Salem Baptist Church and often was put in charge of church functions. Bessie greatly enjoyed talking on the telephone, shopping and was always looking for the best deal. She most enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
In addition to her parents, Bessie was greeted into Heaven by her granddaughter, KyShara; and brothers, Richard Hocker, Robert Banks, and Charles Hocker.
Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband, Raymond Carter; daughter, Caroline Jones and
husband, Mario Jones; brothers, John Hocker and Willie Banks; Sisters, Alice Scott and Ethel Morrison
and husband Jerry Morrison; grandson, Mario B. Jones; great granddaughter, Zariyah Carter-Hill;
Godchildren, Antonius Kenney and JoAnna Bea Perkins; Adoptive Godchildern: Turkeshia P-nut Gillespie-
Ayers, Angelica Chambers, and Bianca Chambers; a host of nieces and nephews; special friends: Arthur
Amos, Ruby Amos, Addie Jones, Mary Amos, and Mary Scott and The McFadden Family; as well as
numerous extended family, and friends.
A celebration of life, graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 28, 2021 at Salem Baptist Church Cemetery. Those that wish to attend are asked to please meet extended family, and friends. at the cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 27, 2021 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Thacker Brothers Scottsville Funeral Home.
