Brenda Sue Catlett Hayton, 77, of Scottsville passed away on April 8, 2025, with her loving family by her side after a long battle with Multiple Sclerosis.
Born March 3, 1948, in Richmond, Virginia, the daughter of the late Billy Catlett and Frances Sclater Powell.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandson Michael Gage Lloyd, son-in-law Michael Shane Lloyd, sisters-in-law’s Brenda Catlett and Michele Catlett and brother-in-law Gary Mitchell Morgan.
Brenda graduated from Lane High School in 1967. Her career included Personal Director for Leggett/Belk Department Store, Tour Director for Lakeland/World Strides. Brenda’s passion for gardening was amazing in spite of her disability. She maintained numerous flower beds and containers along with her gardening buddy, Sue. Brenda also enjoyed going to the movies and thrift store shopping with special friends Margaret, Delores, Stefanie and Joyce.
Brenda was a member of Fox Memorial Baptist Church and considered all of the members of her church her family. She enjoyed attending services and participating in all events until she was no longer able to attend in person. She continued to be involved through her husband even when she couldn’t attend and continued to provide support to the church.
Brenda is survived by her loving husband, James A. Hayton; daughter Pam Gregory, loving son-in-law David Gregory of Palmyra, stepsons Brandon Scott Hayton (wife Shannon) of Buckingham, VA and James (Bo) Hayton (wife Frances) of Staunton, VA; grandchildren Stephen Ryan Lloyd, Jessie Paige Layman (husband Tyler), Ashley Burruss (husband Cody), Tyler Gregory, Brittany Miller (husband Derrick), Caitlin, Simon and Sophia Hayton; great-grandchildren Kayleigh and Reggie Layman, Addy and Paris Lloyd; Hunter and Dakota Burruss, Weston Gregory; Maelynn, Emmitt and Kane Miller; brothers, William Kenneth Catlett (wife Carole) of Davidsonville, MD, Alfred Bradley Catlett (wife Jane) and George Michael Catlett of Owings, MD; sisters, Frances Karen
Morgan of Charlottesville, VA, Mary Elizabeth Bishop (husband Joey) and Teresa Catlett Marshall (husband Melvin) both of Scottsville, VA; and dear friend Jennifer Gregory of Palmyra, VA. Numerous nieces and nephews as well as other extended family.
The family would like to thank the staff at Hospice of the Piedmont for the loving and care they provided Brenda and the family in her final weeks.
In addition, we would like to thank Lori Thomas and Gale Conner for their kindness, care and support for Brenda.
A celebration of her life will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, May 17th at the Tri-County Riding Club, 1619 Riding Club Road, Keene VA.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Hospice of the Piedmont or the Multiple Sclerosis Association in Brenda’s memory.
