Bryan Arthur Barker, 40, passed away on Friday, June 19, 2026. He was born on April 11, 1986, the son of Susan Maureen (Barker) Shifflett.
Bryan worked for ServiceMaster in the Yorktown division and was excited about his new responsibilities as lead manager, overseeing the entire division. He loved his work and cherished his morning coffee with coworkers, sitting together and talking about the day ahead.
An outdoorsman at heart, Bryan loved fishing on the water, hunting, riding horses, and cooking—he could make a hearty “throw‑together” meal out of anything. A proud 2004 graduate of Monticello High School, he was forever a Monticello Mustang and an avid San Francisco 49ers and Star Wars fan. He often said, “I’m ten foot tall and bulletproof.” Above all, Bryan loved his family, and his greatest joy was his two daughters, Amelia and Scarlett.
Survivors include his mother, Susan Shifflett, and “Dad,” Ronnie Shifflett; his daughters, Amelia (Millie) Barker and Scarlett Barker; his brother, William Shifflett (Rachel); his sisters, Brittany Barker (Daniel Brown) and Carolyn “Tigger” Shifflett; his grandparents, Samuel Barker and Julia Barker; his special nephew, Cayden Tomlin; nieces and nephews Riley, Harper, Ava, Will, Levi, and Ellie Shifflett; his uncle, Jim Barker (Min Yong), and their children Jessica, James, and Elizabeth Barker; and his aunt, Tina Marie Blake (Robbie), and their children Georgia and Grace. He is also survived by Blaine Houchens, whom he thought of like a son.
The family extends a special thank you to Bob and Barbara Coleman for gifting Bryan the burial plot next to Amelia’s mother, Christine Coleman.
May you rest in peace Bryan and always stay ten foot tall and bulletproof.
The family will receive friends on Friday, June 26, 2026, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Thacker Brothers Funeral Home in Scottsville, Virginia. Graveside services will be private.
