C.W. Payne, Jr.

C.W. Payne, Jr., 89, of Scottsville, VA and DeLand, FL, died on Thursday, June 27, 2024 in DeLand, FL.

He was born on October 1, 1934, in Albemarle County, a son of the late Clarence Walker Payne, Sr., and Virginia Tapscott Payne.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, William Lee Payne; and a sister, Antelle Payne Hamner.

C.W. retired from the U.S. Navy after 20 years of service with the Marines, Airforce, and Navy. He was a member of Centenary Church and enjoyed traveling. 

Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Mary Shores Payne; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.  

A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 13, 2024, in Centenary Church Cemetery by Pastor Steve Amburgey.

There will be no viewing or visitation.

Memorial contributions may be sent to the Centenary Church Cemetery Fund.
