Carl Thomas Obituary

Carl Lee Thomas, 90, of Albemarle County passed peacefully in his home on Thursday February 1, 2024 surrounded by those he loved.  He was born on August 5, 1933 in Albemarle County. He was the son of Robert Clinton and Dorothy May (Herring) Thomas. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister Cora Mae and his loving wife, whom he called his  “Little Honey”, Carrie Lee Williams Thomas. They shared almost 65 years of marriage. His love for her was the purest seen, as was hers for him.

He is survived by his 2 daughters Mae Spradlin of Scottsville, Ann Gregory of Fluvanna as well as one son Randy Williams (Lois) of Charlottesville. To his children he was stern when needed, but the most loving father there could be.  From his children, he left a legacy of 9 grandchildren: Angel (Ray), Marsha (Sean), Brandy (Chris), Tracey (Larry), Scott (Sondra), Christie, Wayne (Joyce), Matt (Angie), David (Pam); 24 great-grandchildren: Cody, Jared (Kait), Tiffanee (Zezo), Sadie, Randall, Brayden, Kinley, Lance, Tiara, Dustin (Taylor), Megan, Lincoln, Jaxson, Katelyn, Christian, Tyler, Travis (Caylin), Justin, Brooke, Mikey, Ashley (Cody), Jacob, Ryan and Kendall; 13 great great grandchildren: Nevaeh, Kylie, Jeremiah, Xavior, Moumen, Omnia, Raelyn, Braxton, Kinslee, Tristan, Weston, Hunter, Brianna.

Carl retired at age 48 from A&P grocery store where he was the assistant produce manager. His early retirement allowed him the pleasure of many years of hunting, fishing, selling and trading. He enjoyed the comradery of his buddies and made many close friends. Included are RE Phillips, who was like a son to him, and special friends DW Crickenberger and Steve Mays that he spent many days of his life with doing the things he loved. There is no way to count the lives Carl touched in his 90 years.

He was Baptized a Jehovah’s Witness at age 80. His faith was his source of strength and he freely shared it with others. Carl’s mornings always started with prayer and bible reading.

Carl’s life can be summed up in three words: faith, family and friends. He will be missed by many.
