Carrie Elizabeth Carter, 93, of Arrington passed away on Monday, March 24, 2025, at her home with her loving family by her side.
She was born on October 1, 1931, in Buckingham Co. Virginia to the late Frank Cunningham Sr. and Carrie Virginia Cunningham (Ragland).
In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her beloved husband of 65 years, Maynard Dewey Carter, Sr.; two sons, Mark Carter and Steve Carter; two daughters, Wanda Carter and Linda Brown; two brothers, Frank Cunningham, Jr. and George Ford Cunningham; granddaughter, Tammy Micklem; son-in-law, Charlie Thompson and daughter-in-law, Barbara Carter.
Ms. Carter had a servant’s heart. She was happiest when she was with her loving family. Always providing them with one-of-a-kind food, laughter and endless love. She loved gardening and canning her latest harvest. She had a heart of gold and could make any day better just by wrapping you in her arms. If you needed it and she had it; you could consider it yours. The hole left by Ms. Carter’s passing is irreparable. She will be missed tremendously by so many.
Survivors include five daughters, Brenda Cary and husband, Russell, Carolyn Thompson, Sandra Micklem, Joyce Micklem and husband, Patrick, and Rebecca Ragland and husband, Sam: two sons, M.D. Carter, Jr. and wife, Jean and Donald Carter; 13 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren with 1 great-great grandchild on the way; sister, Hallie Carter; son-in-law, Larry Brown; and a host of extended family and friends.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Ms. Carter’s caregivers, Sissy Moon, Angela Grant, Doris Stevens and Heartland Hospice. The love, care and compassion you showed our mother during her illness never went unnoticed. We appreciate everything you have done for our family.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00pm on Thursday, March 27, 2025, at Thacker Brothers Funeral Home, Scottsville, with Larry Brown officiating. Interment will immediately follow in the Scottsville Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1:00pm until service time.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bethany Methodist Church, Norwood, VA and to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
