Catherine Rutter Cross

Catherine Belle (Rutter) Cross, 88, formerly of Scottsville, died on Wednesday, July 30, 2025 in Dillwyn.

She was born on December 19, 1936 in Fairfax, a daughter of the late Edgar and Elsie (Compton) Rutter. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy W. Cross; two children, Ronnie and Robin; a sister, and two brothers.

Mrs. Cross worked as a typist for the U.S. Marine Corps and Lexis Nexis.  She was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church, loved reading, gospel music, and spending time with her family. 

Survivors include four children, Gregory Scott Lacy (Karen), Linda Lacy Fitzgerald (Earl), Jeffrey Wayne Cross, and Lorie Wolfe Hines (Caren); one stepson, Timothy Roy Cross; nine grandchildren, Jay, Stephen, Brandon, Timmy, Katie, Christyn, Caitlyn, Josh, and Tyler; and three great-grandchildren, Jayson, Alice, and Astrid.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 3, 2025, at Thacker Brothers Scottsville Funeral Home by Pastor Alan Acree. Burial will follow in Scottsville Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Special thanks are extended to the staff and administration of Heritage Hall in Dillwyn, and to Betty Turner, who cared for Mrs. Cross for many years.
