Charles Edward Shumaker, 68, of Scottsville, passed away on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at the University of Virginia Medical Center.
He was born on December 13, 1957, in Charlottesville, a son of the late Albert Lewis Shumaker and Ruth Marie (McGuire) Shumaker. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Rodney Shumaker.
Charles spent many years working as an acoustic ceiling tile installer and floor technician. He was a hardworking man who took pride in providing for his family and lending a hand whenever it was needed. Charles never hesitated to help others and was known for his generous spirit.
He found his greatest joy in time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. Charles enjoyed gardening, fishing, watching Westerns, and working on projects around the house. He also enjoyed helping his son-in-law with various jobs. He loved to cook and took special care to make sure everyone was well fed, never wanting anyone to go hungry. Being at home with his son and grandson, Nathan, who lived with him, brought him deep happiness.
Survivors include his daughter, Felicia Annette Miller and her husband, Corey, of Troy; his son, Charles Michael Shumaker of Scottsville; three grandchildren, Stephen Spence, Nathan Spence, and Carolyn Spence; and his sister, Janet Lester of Charlottesville.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at Scottsville Cemetery, with Pastor Randy Golladay officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, April 20, 2026, at Thacker Brothers Scottsville Funeral Home.
