Charles Ellis Smith, 53, of Fork Union, passed away on Tuesday, March 1, 2022, at the Hospice of the Piedmont's Center for Acute Hospice Care in Charlottesville surrounded by his family.
He was born on August 18, 1968, a son of Charles Wayne and Ruby (Brookman) Smith.
Charles worked at Austin Powder Company for 31 plus years, serving as a Blaster and Technical Representative throughout the state of Virginia. He loved nature and enjoyed hunting when he was able. Charles also enjoyed spending time with his daughter, Ellie, and of course his two fur babies, Patch & Pepper.
In addition to his parents, survivors include his wife of 30 years, Paige (Melton) Smith of Fork Union; His daughter, Ellie Faith Smith of Fork Union; Two brothers, Kenneth Wayne of Fork Union and Keith Allen of Midlothian; His maternal Grandmother, Dorothy Brookman of Bremo Bluff; His mother in-law, Brenda Melton of Fork Union; Seven nieces and nephews; Along with a number of extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Lawrence Brookman; both paternal grandparents, James and Evelyn Smith; and his father in-law, Walter Gordon "W.G." Melton Jr.
A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 12, 2022 at Fork Union Baptist Church at 11:30 AM. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, at 10:30 AM and will gather in the fellowship hall for a meal immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or Hospice of the Piedmont.
