Charles Wayne Smith, 77, of Fork Union, died on Friday, June 19, 2026, at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville.
He was born on July 29, 1948, in Clifton Forge, a son of the late James Robert and Evelyn Lois (Nicely) Smith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Charles Ellis Smith; a brother, James R. Smith, Jr.; and a nephew, Robert Wayne Smith.
Charles worked for Dominion Energy and American General Life Insurance. He was known for his sense of humor and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Ruby Brookman Smith; two sons, Kenneth Smith, and Keith Smith (Lauren); grandchildren, Ellie, Sophia, Chloe, Kelsey, Ethan, Wyatt, Lila, and Vivienne; a sister, Debra Branch (James); a daughter-in-law, Paige (Melton) Smith; two brothers-in-law, Buck Brookman (Virginia), and Larry Brookman (Serena); a sister-in-law, Barbara Jean Smith; step-brother, Wayne King (Mary); and many extended family members.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at Fork Union Baptist Church with Pastor Anthony Clore officiating.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
