Daniel William Joseph George, 69, of Palmyra, died on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at the University of Virginia Medical Center.
He was born on June 6, 1956, in Brooklyn, NY, a son of the late Daniel F. and Anna C. (Stratvich) George.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Diana Puglisi George; and a brother-in-law, Paul B. Perez.
Dan grew up in Valley Stream on Long Island, New York. As an adult, he resided in Port Washington, NY and Glen Oaks, Queens, NY before settling in Palmyra VA, where he was a parishioner at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church. He studied Computer Science at Hofstra University and worked as a computer programmer and analyst. His focus was inventory control and later royalty standards at Universal Records. He was self-employed as a limousine driver in New York City, later transitioning to Uber and Lyft.
Dan was a cat enthusiast of the highest order. While he loved each and every cat, he especially loved his orange cat Theo aka Theo, the Cat from Outer Space. He loved to explore new places, especially enjoying those sites linked to the history of our country. He and Diana would also research those locations in Virginia, broadening and enriching both their knowledge and enjoyment of this shared hobby. Dan fully supported Diana in her passion for photography, driving her on trips to various locales because making her happy was his greatest delight. He thoroughly enjoyed politics and was known for his passionate political debates. He often spent holiday dinners arguing with his brother-in-law, Paul, in which they both took great pleasure. Prior to his marriage, Daniel was often found visiting his sister, Mary Anne, and her family (including the aforementioned Paul), where they enjoyed apple picking in the autumn and holiday gatherings, to which he brought great levity.
Survivors include a sister, Mary Anne Perez; and a niece and nephew, Anna-Maria Perez, and Paul D. Perez; his Palmyra family, JoAnn & Tom Rock, Arlene & Ken Buynak, and Colin Wynne; his cat Bam Bam; special friends, Bob Sanimarco and Ed Mayberger; and many wonderful cousins.
A memorial mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church by the Rev. John Nyanzi. The family will greet friends starting at 10:00 a.m.
Thacker Brothers Lake Monticello Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
