Deanna Catherine (Haugh) Helfrich, 85, of Palmyra, died peacefully with her husband by her side on Wednesday, December 14, 2022 at Martha Jefferson Hospital.
She was born on June 6, 1937, in New York, a daughter of the late James and Catherine (Taddeo) Haugh.
Deanna enjoyed knitting, reading, puzzles, and spending time with her family. She especially enjoyed spending time with her two granddaughters and great-granddaughter, who affectionately called her “Pink Nana” or “Pinky.” Deanna and her husband also enjoyed buying and selling homes over the years in both New York and Virginia.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, James Haugh.
Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Herbert Helfrich; a son, Bill Helfrich and daughter-in-law Amy of Palmyra; a daughter, Susan Lauerman and son-in-law Paul of Danbury, CT; a sister, Jeanne Haugh of Elmsford, NY; a granddaughter, Allison Marcum and her husband, Nick Marcum of Palmyra; a great-granddaughter, Josephine Mae Marcum; and a granddaughter, Amanda Helfrich of Palmyra.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 22, 2022, at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Palmyra. A graveside service will be held on December 23, 2022 at 11:00am in Culpeper National Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7:00-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 21, 2022 at Thacker Brothers Lake Monticello Funeral Home.
