Doris Rittenhouse Obituary

 

Doris Lenora (Bryant) Rittenhouse, 88, of Scottsville, passed away on Thursday, February 17, 2022, at her daughter’s home in Alaska.

She was born on Friday, September 22, 1933, in Scottsville, a daughter of the late Whitfield Lee Bryant, Sr., and Jakie (Edwards) Bryant.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, David Roger Rittenhouse; a brother, Whitfield Lee Bryant, Jr.; and a granddaughter, Jennifer Horazdovsky.

Mrs. Rittenhouse was a devoted and loving housewife and mother.  She and David met in Scottsville and lived in Norfolk and Virginia Beach for a number of years. They moved to Kodiak in 1968, where David worked in Civil Service at the Naval Base. After 19 years in Alaska, they returned to Scottsville for retirement. She enjoyed spending time with her husband and family, growing flowers, birdwatching, taking scenic drives, and photographing the beauty around her.

Survivors include two sons, David Rittenhouse, Jr. (Kathleen), and Stephen Rittenhouse (Shawna), all of Kodiak, Alaska; a daughter, Sharon C. Hulley (Stevan) of Kotzebue, Alaska; four brothers, Wilbur E. Bryant (Betty) of Colorado, Herman W. Bryant (Gladys) of Charlottesville, Carl E. Bryant of Charlottesville, and Roger L. Bryant of Scottsville; seven grandchildren, Daniel Horne, Joshua Horne, Michelle Rittenhouse, Kenneth Hulley, Sally Rittenhouse, Brendan Hulley, and Pauline Hulley; six great-grandchildren, Kiyana, Caleb, Christopher, Justin, Kenzie, and Riley; and many nieces, nephews, and other extended family members and friends.    

A funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 PM on Monday, February 28, 2022, at Thacker Brothers Scottsville Funeral Home by Pastor Randy Golladay. Burial will follow in Scottsville Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

A special thank you is extended to Wanda Morris, Deane and Doris Duncan, and her grandson Joshua Horne for their love and care through the years.
