Doris "Dot" O'Brien Anderson, age 90, of Esmont, Virginia was called home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, July 12, 2023.
She was born on Saturday, March 18, 1933, in Albemarle County, Scottsville, Virginia, the daughter of the late Earl W. O'Brien and Lillie (Collier) O'Brien.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband Raleigh Lewis Anderson, Sr. of 43 years; a sister, Audrey O'Brien Chisholm; a niece "Bonnie Carol" Chisholm Cole; and a grandson, Charles Garland "Chuck" Tomlin, Jr.
Survivors include daughter Patricia "Pat" Wray (Jeffrey "Jeff") of Charlottesville, Virginia; great-grandson Michael "Mike" Tomlin, of Esmont, VA; great-great grandchildren, Elizabeth of Ruckersville, Deane and Jasmyn of Esmont, and Remington of Arvonia; as well as close extended family members, Sonja Garton (Ricky); great-granddaughter, Amber Dunnivan (Jason), great-great-grandchildren JT, Kenzie, and Alex of Barboursville, VA.; and many "Kin Folks" who she grew up with from childhood to adulthood back in the "good old days", never to be forgotten.
Dot operated the O'Brien family business for 20 years, established in the late 1950's, known as E. W. O'Brien Grocery, located on Rt. 6, Esmont, VA. In the early 1970's she was employed by Albemarle County High School in Charlottesville, VA where she retired after 15 years. Dot enjoyed the remainder of her life, sharing each precious moment with her family, whom she loved and cherished so dearly.
"Mama Dot" often referred to herself as "The Mother Hen Who Always Gathered Her Baby Chicks Around Her". Her last words were, "I love my family and I love everybody".
Well, Mama Dot, your family loves you too, and they will miss you. Your family will see you on the other side.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, July 22, 2023 at Thacker Brothers Funeral Home located at 650 Valley Street in Scottsville, VA with Reverend Chauncey Brown officiating.
Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Entombment will follow at Monticello Memory Gardens Mausoleum in Charlottesville, VA, where she will be placed beside her beloved husband, Raleigh.
