Edith Maxine Wood, 87, of Charlottesville, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 18, 2025, after a lengthy illness.
She was born on May 27, 1938, in Albemarle County, a daughter of the late John Eldridge and Virginia Effie (Johnson) Roberts.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 50 years, Willard Coles Wood, Jr.; a son, John R. Wood; brothers, Harry L. Roberts, and Eldridge T. Roberts “E.T”.
Mrs. Wood worked for 30 years as a dietary worker with Charlottesville Public Schools and after retirement enjoyed spending time with her family. She was the most generous, loving, caring, and kind person on earth, and always had a big hug for everyone.
Survivors include two children, a daughter, Sheila McGuire (Lee) of Scottsville, and a son, Willard C. Wood, III “W.C” (Charlotte) of Barboursville; a sister, Shirley Clark (John) of Charlottesville; five grandchildren, Waylon Moon (Lori), Chuck Moon (Ann), Gregory Wood, Timothy Wood, and Truman Wood; four great-grandchildren, Sarah, Caitlyn, Ethan, and Airel; and many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, at Alberene Cemetery by Chaplain Kendall Cooke.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Monday, December 22, 2025, at Thacker Brothers Scottsville Funeral Home.
