Obituary

Edward Siegel Wood, Sr., 84, of North Garden, died on Tuesday, July 11, 2023, at his home.

He was born on November 10, 1938, a son of the late Willard Coles Wood, Sr. and Oreta (Moon) Wood. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 years, Nancy Lee Wood; two brothers Alfred B. Wood and Willard C. Wood Jr. and sister Rosalind Sprouse.

Survivors include three sons, E.D. Wood, Jr., and Michael Wood, both of North Garden; and Frank Sipe and his wife Vicky, of Palmyra; a daughter, Sandy Herndon; a son in law, Mark Herndon, both of North Garden; eight grandchildren, Andreonna, Tiffany and Michael Wood, Brittany, Bethany and Brandon Herndon, Frankie Sipe and his wife, Brooke, and Kristina Besecker and her husband Chad; thirteen great-grandchildren, Haden, Bradley, Jase, Christopher, Heaven, Gavin, Jonathan, Blake, Izabella, Connor, Laynie, Katherine, Steven, and Addy

Eddie will be missed by many in the community. He served the community for many years as a Funeral Director with Hawkins (now Teague) Funeral Service.  He then worked as a Construction Supervisor with the Seville Group in Stuarts Draft. In his last several years he served as the President of Alberene Cemetery.

Eddie left his family and friends with many fond memories. Memories such as building things and working alongside him in the garden. He always greeted his loved ones with a smile and a hug, and always made sure to say “I Love You and be safe” whenever they saw or talked to him. The family will cherish the way he loved and protected his grandchildren with all his heart.

The family will receive friends from  3:00- 5:00 PM  on Saturday, July 15, 2023, at Thacker Brothers Scottsville Funeral Home. Following the visitation the family will be hosting a gathering at Eddie’s residence.

A graveside service in Alberene Cemetery will be held at a later date.
