Edward “Duck” Elwood Spradlin, 81, went to be with the Lord on October 19, 2020 after a long battle with cancer. He was born December 18, 1938 in Albemarle County, VA to the late Richard Melvin and Edith Pace Spradlin. He was preceded in death by his brother, Richard (Dickie) Spradlin; his sister-in-law Alice Spradlin; and his nephews Scotty and Brian Spradlin.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Peggy Herndon Spradlin; brothers, Herbert (Fuzzy) Spradlin and Wallace (Midge) Spradlin and his wife, Judy; two sisters-in-law; four brothers-in-law; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Duck shared a special love for Christopher Cox whom he loved as a son. He had a wonderful bond with his friend Grant (Boss Man) Cosner with whom he spent many hours with their favorite pastime, fox hunting. They both loved their dogs!
Duck was a member of New Bethel Methodist Church in Woodridge. He was a jack of all trades, driving a school bus, working construction with his dad, and working on Grant’s farms. He loved life and people, loved to sing to all he met and never had a cross word to say about anybody. He especially loved Rose’s homemade ice cream.
A special thank you to all of our extended family at the Phillips Cancer Center for all their expertise, love, and support. Also, a special thank you to Hospice of the Piedmont.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Hospice of the Piedmont, Charlottesville, Albemarle SPCA, or Fluvanna SPCA.
