Elizabeth Way Obituary

Elizabeth Crockett Way passed away on the morning of July 19, 2022.  She was 82 years young.  She was a strong believer in the resurrection of Jesus Christ, her Lord and Savior.

She was born on August 19, 1939, to her beloved parents, Thompson Graham Crockett and Allene Strother Raper Crockett.  Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Peter Trosdal Way, her older sister Sally Pendleton Crockett, and her youngest sister, Allene Graham Crockett Sizemore.

Elizabeth held many fond memories of Blue Ridge School, where she graduated as class valedictorian.   She then attended and earned degrees from Ferrum College and Madison College, before becoming a schoolteacher.

She married Peter Way in 1964 and joined him in running the Tros-Dale Home for Boys in Keene, VA.  This group home for boys was a family-oriented home rather than the large children’s institutions that were the norm at the time.  As such, she became the mother figure to many boys over the years.  She is loved dearly by so many of them, whose lives she touched so significantly.

Elizabeth is survived by her sister, Mary Craig Crockett Davis (Lynwood), her brother Samuel Temple Crockett (Barbara), her four children, Kent Stanley Stout (Janice), David Wayne Way, Timothy Michael Way (Jill), and Kristi Way.  She was also grandmother, great grandmother and mother to eleven grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and many “Tros-Dale boys” who loved her.

Elizabeth loved her family fiercely.  She devoted her life to her family.  She was loving and generous all of her life. Family gatherings at her home made up the fondest of her memories.  She would envision watching her children and grandchildren playing in the yard of her Scottsville home long after they were grown and she took enormous pleasure in these memories.  She will be missed painfully by so very many.

The family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff of Commonwealth Senior Living for their care during the last years of her life.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. at St. Anne’s Parish, Christ Church, Glendower (900 Glendower Rd; Scottsville, VA) on Saturday, July 23, 2022.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
