Eva Knight Obituary

Eva Lee Knight
September 24, 1932 - July 15, 2024

Eva was born in Charlottesville VA to the late Howard Knight and Iris Hurd Knight. She is predeceased in death by a brother, Dr. John Knight, and her sisters Kathryn Wright, Jane Streetman, Faye Kurz, and Iris Chisholm (Bernie), nephews Doug Chisholm, Mike Streetman, Bill Wright, and Robert Mahone.
She is survived by her family: Bucky Chisholm (Lisa), Todd Chisholm (Jodean), Brenda Chisholm (Danny), Betty Chisholm, Dr. Jay Knight (Wanda), Colter Knight (Julie), Heather Knight (Sue), Deborrah Mahone (John), Robert Kurz, Sam Kurz, John Kurz, as well as many great Nieces, Nephews and all the animals she loved so much.
After Graduating Lane High School in 1950, she worked for years for the VA Forestry Service and then transferred to the Virginia Highway Research Council for a total state employment of 48 years of service. After retiring she took neighbors to their appointments and shopping, visited shut-ins and nursing homes, cooked for everyone, and even ran a laundry service and daycare out of her home (non-paid) for young family members just getting out on their own. She spent time volunteering at various organizations like the Free Clinic, SPCA, Wildlife Refuge Center, Fire Departments, Rescue Squads and local hospitals, Lions Club, Am Vets, Goodwill, etc.
A great passion in her life was the UVA Football Club. This is where she met so many football players and adopted most of them as their second Mother away from home. These relationships helped to shape the futures of many young men and women as they wrestled with life’s challenges at that age. Over the years, numerous players visited and called her to the very end. Eva loved UVA Football and never missed a local or away game if she could help it. She always had a car full of UVA fans with a trunk full of great food to eat either at the tailgate or on the road.
Eva also loved music, especially sacred music. She was in the adult choirs her whole life and created and managed the Children’s Choir at Macedonia Methodist Church in years past.
Eva has been an inspiration to all that she met and will be missed by those whose lives she has touched.
We want to personally thank Sandi Robertson, Eva’s caregiver, for her years of dedication and attention to Eva. We also want to thank Wendy Hodges, April Rice and Crystal Kasper for their dedicated support in making living at home possible for Eva.
In lieu of flowers please make your donation to Hospice of the Piedmont located in Charlottesville VA or local Rescue and Fire Departments in your community.
A celebration of life will be held at “Eva’s Cottage” at Hidden Spring Farm, 32 Lasley Lane, Louisa VA at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 20th, 2024.
