Evelyn Walker Randolph

Evelyn Vernice Walker Randolph of Schuyler, VA entered into eternal rest on Friday, July 21, 2023, at the University of Virginia Medical Center surrounded by her children and sister. She was born in Charlottesville, VA on April 19, 1949, to the late David Walker, Sr. and the late Eva White Walker. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Russell C. Randolph; maternal grandparents, Ernest and Mary White; paternal grandparents, George and Lessie Walker; and mother-in-law, Dorothy Randolph. 

Evelyn is survived by her dear son, Lawrence Randolph (Lucille); daughter, Stephanie Coleman (Cornelius); granddaughter, Amina Coleman; three brothers, Fletcher Walker (Teresa), David Walker Jr., and Michael Walker (Iris); special sister, Mary Ann Eubanks; best friend for 68 years, Sharon Vest; brother-in-law, Ernest Randolph; three sisters-in-law, Jackie Randolph, Linda Randolph-Fuller (Charles), and Brenda Randolph; special cousins, Ruby Morse and Edith Allen; a special friend, Denise Bush, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends whom she loved dearly. 

Evelyn was a faithful member of the Mt. Alto Baptist Church in Howardsville, VA, where she served as church clerk and for over 40 years as Sunday School teacher, choir member, and usher. Evelyn was also a faithful member of the St. Joy Baptist Church family in Schuyler, VA. 

Evelyn worked in the banking industry for over 40 years and co-owned and operated Randolph’s General Merchandise in Schuyler, VA, alongside her husband for 26  years. 

Evelyn lived a life of servanthood, giving and forgiving. She delightfully cared for her family and friends and gave of her time and resources to help others. One of Evelyn’s favorite scriptures was Matthew 5:1-13. Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is Evelyn’s reward in heaven.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 28, 2023, at 11:00 am at the Mt. Alto Baptist Church (4330 Mt. Alto Road, Howardsville, VA 22937) with Rev. Kendrick Edwards, officiating and Rev. Ernie Morse, eulogist. There will be a one hour visitation prior to the service in the church. Interment will be held at the St. Joy Baptist Church cemetery (5567 Glade Road, Schuyler, VA 22969) where Evelyn will be laid to rest beside her husband. 

Those who wish to pay their respects may do so from 2:00-5:00 pm on Thursday, July 27, 2023 at Thacker Brothers Funeral Home in Scottsville, VA.
