Finbarr Michael O'Connell

Finbarr Michael O'Connell, 74, of Scottsville, VA, died Saturday, June 12, 2010 at the University of Virginia Medical Center.
He was born August 9, 1935 in Charlestown, MA, a son of the late Maurice and Margaret (Riordan) O'Connell.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Daniel and William O'Connell; and two sisters, Mary Lydon and Helen Watters.
Mr. O'Connell served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He worked as a Social Worker with the Veteran's Administration and the National Institute of Mental Health, and retired as a Regional Administrator for the Department of Health and Human Services. He was a member of the National Association of Social Workers and enjoyed spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Toms O'Connell; two sons, Michael Maurice O'Connell of Philadelphia, PA, and Daniel William O'Connell of Everett, MA; a brother Maurice O'Connell; a sister Margaret O'Connell, both of Belmont, MA; a brother-in-law, Samuel Toms of Florida; two sisters-in-law, Louise Rittenhouse of Scottsville, and Margaret Toms of Charlottesville; a number of nieces and nephews; and his loving lab Colleen.
A funeral service will be conducted at 7 PM on Wednesday, June 16, 2010 at Thacker Brothers Funeral Home in Scottsville. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
