Frances Haislip Baker, aged 88, passed away on July 21, 2024, in Fluvanna County, Virginia, where she was also born on September 6, 1935.
Frances was a renowned entrepreneur in the restaurant industry, owning and operating several establishments throughout her life. Known for her quick wit and indomitable presence, she cherished her interactions with customers and friends and held her family close to her heart. Frances was a beloved matriarch who instilled the values of hard work and care in her children and grandchildren.
She leaves behind a loving family, including daughter Terry Baker Bryan and son-in-law Ricky Bryan; daughter Karen Baker Clore and son-in-law Richard Clore; and son Chuck Baker and daughter-in-law Debbie Scruggs Baker. Frances is also survived by her siblings Alice Haislip Bolling, William (Bill) A. Haislip, and Karlen Haislip Layne. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren Stacy Bryan Butler (Matthew), Nikki Bryan Boisseau (Michael), Jennifer Bryan Janson (Ryan), Ryan Clore (Jenny), Katy Clore Wilkerson, Kevin Clore, Amanda Baker Underwood (Grant), Kelly Baker Olson (Erik), Chad Baker, and Zack Baker, as well as many great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Frances was preceded in death by her parents, Rennie and Northy Haislip, and her beloved husband, Chester F. Baker.
Additionally, siblings Margaret Haislip Digges, Florence Haislip Melton, Ed Haislip, and Janice Haislip Thacker and half siblings Effie Haislip Kirby, Roy Haislip, Elsie Haislip Searcy, Cecil Haislip, Gerald Haislip, Rennie Haislip Jr., Mary Haislip Collins, and Dorothy Haislip Pollard.
In remembrance of Frances, the family suggests that contributions be made to Hospice of Piedmont or to the cemetery funds of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church or Antioch Baptist Church. Her memory and legacy will be cherished by all who knew her.
A celebration of Frances’s life will be held at Antioch Baptist Church, Scottsville, VA on Wednesday July 24, 2024, at 11am with graveside service immediately following. There will be a viewing at 10:30am prior to the service.
A reception at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, Scottsville, VA, will immediately follow the graveside service.
