Frances M. Eldridge

God saw that Frances had fought life’s battles as best she could. It was time for Frances to take her rest. So, on Sunday morning, September 13, 2020, Grandparents Day, God closed Frances’ big, bright, beautiful, eyes and called her home to be with Him.

Frances, the youngest girl of seven children, was born on April 17, 1937 to the late James and Annie Marie Banks. In addition to her parents, Frances is preceded in death by a son, Herman (Booney) Jr.; grandson, Dwayne Smith; five brothers, Thomas James, Elisha, Leslie, and Fletcher Banks; and one sister,Virginia Stanton.

Frances accepted Christ and joined Spreading Oak Baptist Church. She served as a Deaconess until she moved her membership to Baptist Union Baptist Church to worship with her husband regularly until earlier this year. She remained a watch care member and she supported Spreading Oak as often as she could.

Frances leaves to cherish her memories a loving, faithful, caring and devoted husband of almost 63 years “HerMan”; one son, Franklin Dovel (Vickie) of Goochland, Virginia; four daughters, Elenor Smith (Wayne) of Louisa, Virginia, Gloria Smith (Larry) of Fork Union, Virginia, Carolyn Brooks (Vernado) of Richmond, Virginia, and Francine Chambers of Charlottesville, Virginia. She will also be remembered by a nephew she thought of as a son, Elwood Stanton (Harriet) of Richmond, VA; daughter-in-law, Yvonne Chambers Eldridge; three brothers-in-law, three sisters-in-law, eighteen grandchildren; twenty five great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and cousins, and her long-term caregiver, Sabrina Bradley.

We can never say goodbye to you

because we could never bear the pain. 

Instead we say we love Mama, Granny,

until we meet again.

A graveside service will be conducted on Friday, Sept. 18, 2020 at 11:00 am at Spreading Oak Baptist Church.  The Rev. Timothy Jackson will be officiating.  

Calling hours are scheduled for Thursday, Sept 17, 2020 at Thacker Brothers Scottsville Funeral Home from 10am-6pm.
