Francis Jackson “Jack” Ragland, 87, of Buckingham, died on Sunday, December 22, 2024, in Charlottesville, VA. He was surrounded by his wife and special niece, Carolyn Toms.
He was born on July 1, 1937, a son of the late Lee Garland Ragland, Sr., and Courtney Louise (Taylor) Ragland.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Francis Jackson “F.J.” Ragland, Jr.; four sisters, Virginia Johnson, Marjorie Maddox, Flossie Tucker, and Dorothy Adcock; and five brothers Woodrow, Elwood, Benson, Odell, and Junior Ragland.
Jack was a lifelong member of Glenmore Community Church and served his church in many capacities. He retired from Coyne & Delany in 1999 after 30 years of service. He was a charter member of the Buckingham County Fire Department, Glenmore Division. In 2021 he was declared a lifetime member of the fire department after 53 years of service. Jack had many hobbies but some his favorites included gardening, hunting, fishing, watching ball games (especially Buckingham Co. Youth League) and spending time with his family and friends. He loved God and his sweet personality and warm smile could light up a room. Jack also had special nieces and nephews that he loved as his own children and they bought him great joy over the years.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Dorothy Adcock Ragland; three sisters, Shirley Hooker, Barbara Hackett, Vernell Agee; two brothers, James Matthew Ragland (Hazel), and Willie Eugene Ragland (Joan); two grandchildren, Brianna Elaine Vetrano (Joshua), and Cameron Jackson Ragland (Marika); two great-grandchildren, Peyton Corrine Ragland, and Carson Jackson Ragland; one sister-in-law, Anne A. Timberlake (Tim); and one brother-in-law, Hugh W. Brown, Sr. Family meant a great deal to Jack and he looked forward to their visits, family gatherings, and spending time with them.
Not only was family important to Jack but his surrounding neighbors and friends throughout the county meant the world to him as well.
