George Austin Turner, 79, of Buckingham, entered the gates of Heaven on Monday, January 23, 2023 at the University of Virginia Hospital.
He was born on Friday, January 7, 1944, in Buckingham County to the late James Turner and Irene Elizabeth (Fountain) Turner.
In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by three brothers, James Turner, John Turner, and Donald Turner; four sisters, Lily Turner, Viola Turner, Gloria Turner, and Phillis Ann Turner Randolph; three uncles, Willie Turner, Alex Turner, and Cecil Turner; two aunts, Eva Turner and Viola Turner; four nephews, Darryl Turner, Kevin Turner, George M. Turner, Mark Turner; and niece, Cheryl Turner.
George loved hunting, fishing, his family, and the Lord. He was baptized in the later stages of his life and was a member of Salem Baptist Church. George was a man of few words, but he enjoyed attending church events in the community and joining others in fellowship.
He is survived by his life-long partner Glendora Reid; two sons, George L. Turner and Damien Turner; a daughter, Laura Reid; two brothers, Phillip Turner and Ronald Turner; three sisters, Sheila (Yvonne) Turner, Camelia Turner, Deborah Turner; an uncle, John Harvey Turner; four grandchildren, Melanie, Anthony, Kionna, and Charity; ten great-grandchildren; a dear friend Walter “Bra” Scott, Jr.; and a host of family and friends that will miss him dearly.
A home-going service will take place at 2:00 pm on Saturday, February 4, 2023 at Salem Baptist Church with Reverend Charles Brown officiating. The committal will follow immediately after the service at Salem Baptist Church Cemetery.
Those desiring may pay their respects from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Friday, February 3, 2023 at Thacker Brothers Scottsville Funeral Home.
