George Johnny Nelson

George Johnny Nelson, 78, of Ruckersville, VA, departed this life on September 18, 2025. A native of Albemarle County, Virginia, George was born on March 22, 1947, to the late Phillip Wyatt Nelson and Ethel Evangline Walker Nelson.

George was preceded in death by his parents, brother James E. Nelson, several aunts, uncles, a brother-in-law, two sister-in-laws, and nieces.

George served in the United States Army from 1966 to 1968 as a radio operator. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal during his service.
He worked at Comdial for many years. George loved cars, being outdoors, whether it was doing yard work or riding his bike for hours. He enjoyed spending time with family, listening to music, and watching football on Sundays. He also loved his dogs, Budweiser, Cowboy, and Jojo.

George leaves behind his loving wife of 49 years, JoAnn M. Nelson, of Ruckersville, VA. Daughter, Antoinette D. Nelson of Louisa, VA. and Son, George P. Nelson of Charlottesville, VA. Three granddaughters, Neah Nelson of Crozet, VA. Jada Nelson of Charlottesville, VA and Aja Nelson of Charlottesville, VA. One grandson, Jordan Tyler of Louisa, VA. Two sisters, Christine Richardson of Keswick, VA, and Lessie Sims (Luther) of Earlysville, VA. He also leaves behind a host of family members and friends. George loved to help people and his calm, quiet and friendly nature will be missed by many.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at 1:00 pm at Mt. Alto Baptist Church, 4330 Mt. Alto Rd. Esmont, VA 22937. Interment will immediately follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive guests for 1 hour prior to the funeral.
