Geraldine Roberts Crickenberger

Geraldine Roberts Crickenberger, 88, died on Sunday, July 20, 2025 in Dillwyn.

She was born on May 8, 1937, in Charlottesville, a daughter of the late Cyrus Elmer and Annie (Branham) Roberts.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wendell Wright Crickenberger; a daughter, Linda Sue Welch; a brother, Randolph W. Roberts; a grandson, Gary Shafer; a daughter-in-law, Sylvia A. Crickenberger; and a son-in-law, Roy E. Shafer.

Mrs. Crickenberger worked for Albemarle Public Schools, was a member of Hardware Baptist Church, and attended Full Gospel Assembly Church. She was honored to present the key to Monticello to President Truman.  She loved motorcycle riding with her husband Wendell and boating and jet skiing with her family at Lake Anna and Smith Mountain Lake. Her passions were cooking and gardening and her flower beds were spectacular.  She was passionate about her five children, who praised her as an incredible and loving mother. Her children always came first in her life. The cornerstone of her family was her endless love and deep faith. Geraldine lived her life defined by that love for others and above all, love for her heavenly father.

Survivors include two sons, Dallas W. Crickenberger (Sandy Brochu-Birckhead), and Cyrus D. Crickenberger (Nancy); two daughters, Tamlia Shafer-Morris (Edgar), and Lisa Crickenberger (Jamie Pincombe); son-in-law, Andrew Welch; nine grandchildren, Brittany Kirschnick, Christopher Sprouse “Bubby”, Cyrus Shafer “Bumper” (Charlene), Cyrus Daniel Crickenberger, Jr., Dana Nelson (Ricky), Makayleonna Welch, Ronnie Dudley (Brittany), Roy Shafer Jr. “Cricket” (Robin), and William Sprouse “Rudy” (Felicia); 15 great-grandchildren; special nieces and nephews, Gary Roberts, Greg Roberts, Phoebe Herring, and Crystal Booth-Hamilton; and special friends, Greg Irving, Howard Shafer “Bobo”, and Catherine Cook.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 24, 2025, at Hardware Baptist Church on Red Hill Road by Pastor Ronald Sipe.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Howard Shaffer “Bobo,” Danny Crickenberger, Jr., Ashton Crickenberger, Roy Shafer “Cricket,” Cyrus Shafer “Bumper,” William Sprouse “Rudy,” Christopher Sprouse “Bubby,” and Ronnie Dudley.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
