Grace Marie Payne

Grace Marie Payne, 95, of Palmyra, passed away on Wednesday, May 12, 2021 at VCU Medical Center. She was born in Buckingham County on May 23, 1925, a daughter of the late Paul and Lou Thomas (Baber) Payne.

Grace worked as a sale person for Electrolux. She was a member of Goshen Baptist Church and the Loyal Order of the Moose in Charlottesville. She greatly enjoyed playing bingo, casino games, hunting, fishing, dancing, cooking, and gardening.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dillard Payne; sons, George Richard Payne and Overt Dillard Payne; sisters, Pauline Snoddy and Kathleen Riley and brother, George “Buddy” Payne.

Survivors include her daughter, Sandra Morris of Charlottesville; sister, Elizabeth Haden and husband, Jim of Richmond; 7 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; a special niece, Judy Simons; as well as several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, May 17, 2021 at Scottsville Cemetery with Pastor Henry Enochs officiating.  Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery, wear a facial mask, and practice social distancing.

Due to Covid-19 Regulations, there will be no formal visitation, family and friends may come by on Sunday, May 16, 2021 from 12:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at Thacker Brothers Scottsville Funeral Home to view and pay their respects.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Grace’s memory to Goshen Baptist Church, or the Fluvanna County Rescue Squad, PO Box 96, Palmyra, VA 22963.
