Harold Thornton Ownby, 73, of Troy, Virginia passed away at his home on Tuesday, July 29, 2025.
Born on January 30, 1952, in Charlottesville, Virginia, he was the son of the late Norman Glenn Ownby and Janice Reid (Turner) Ownby. He spent much of his career as a civilian with the National Ground Intelligence Agency in Charlottesville, Virginia. He spent several years playing drums in the band C&O connection all around the central Virginia Area. He also had a great love for UVA basketball and attended many of the UVA women's basketball games.
Harold is survived by his sister, Marilyn Ownby Pratt, who has since passed; his nephew John Bays, and John’s wife, Lisa; their children Jordan and Logan; his nephew, Todd Ownby, Todd’s daughter, Kelly; and her daughter, Dahlia. He is also fondly remembered by his close friend Greg, his beloved cat, Twix, The Nelson’s and his neighbor Melinda.
Harold will be remembered for his sharp humor and wit. He will be deeply missed by all that knew him.
A memorial service will be held on September 20, 2025, at Thacker Brothers Funeral Home, located at 650 Valley Street, Scottsville, VA 24590 at 2:00 pm. Harold will be laid to rest alongside his late beloved sister, Marilyn Pratt in a private service.
