Harvey Tapscott, Sr. Obituary

Our beloved Harvey Hill Tapscott, Sr., 96 gained his wings on December 30,2025. Born and raised in Scottsville, Virginia, he was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and found joy with his family and friends.

He is survived by the love of his life Barbara Caroll Tapscott, wife of 69 years; five sons, Harvey Jr. Tapscott (Penny), Bernard (Hassie) Tapscott (Leslie), Tracy Tapscott (Kathy), James (Beatle) Tapscott (Susan), Charles (Binky) Tapscott (Robin); a daughter-in-law, Melissa Palmer Tapscott; seventeen grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; and a brother, Tommy Tapscott (Debbie).

Harvey was born on August 14, 1929, a son of the late Harvey Hamner “Tucker” Tapscott and Livie Shores Tapscott. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters, Paige T. Massie, Edna T. Anderson; one brother Stuart Tapscott; a special son Troy Hamner Tapscott and a great-granddaughter, Avery Campbell.

Harvey was co-owner of the family business Tapscott Brothers Logging & Forest Pro in his younger years and enjoyed working alongside his sons.

Harvey served in the U.S. Army.  He was a lifetime member of Scottsville Baptist Church and was known for his faith and dedication to the Lord.  He loved spending time with loved ones and displayed a great sense of humor. He enjoyed seeing people smile and had a story for everyone who listened. We were all very blessed to know and love him.

His legacy of hard work and being a faithful Christian will live in our hearts forever.

Matt Gowin, pastor of Scottsville Baptist Church will officiate a private funeral service and burial in Scottsville Cemetery.  Harvey’s sons and grandsons will serve as active pallbearers and Troy (Guke) Tapscott as an honorary pallbearer.
