Helen Mae (Hardy) Townsend

Helen Mae (Hardy) Townsend, 85, of Scottsville, passed away on Saturday, May 7, 2022.

She was born on December 10, 1936, to the late Joseph Wesley and Virginia Elizabeth (Hatcher) Hardy.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jay C. Townsend; three brothers, Leland Hardy, Shirly Hardy and Melvin Hardy; and a sister, Dorothy Husky.

Helen was a longtime, faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Charlottesville, Va. Her strong faith and love for God was admirable. She enjoyed studying the bible and reading scriptures in her free time. Helen was a loving, caring person and had a heart of gold, but could get quite fiery if you got on her bad side. She enjoyed spending time with her sweet grandbabies and loved the ground that they walked on! She made it a priority to stay in touch with her friends and members of the church, whenever she could. Helens sweet soul will truly be missed.

Survivors include her two sons, Brent Townsend of Scottsville, Va and Patrick Townsend of Vinton, Va; three grandchildren, Joshua and Daniel Townsend of Pocahontas, Va and Siobhan Townsend of Fork Union, Va; two great grandchildren. Addison Collier and Liam Townsend; a special sister in-law, Velma Townsend; along with a host of extended family members and friends.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 14, 2022, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Thacker Brothers Scottsville Funeral Home.

A funeral service will be conducted on Sunday, May 15, 2022, at Thacker Brothers Scottsville Funeral Home at 2:00 PM.  Bishop Craig Smith will officiate the service. Burial will follow immediately after at the Scottsville Cemetery.
