Jack Louis Best, 86, of Lake Monticello, died on Thursday, December 19, 2024, in Charlottesville.
He was born on July 6, 1938, in Delphos, OH, a son of the late Hubert and Teresa (Neidhammer) Best.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen Marie Frances (Landy) Best.
Jack earned a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in History from Catholic University. He worked at the Federal Archives, the Treasury Department, and the Federal Retirement Thrift Investment Board. Jack was a member of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church and enjoyed gardening, baking, volunteering, baseball, and traveling with his wife.
Survivors include a son, Christopher Joseph David Best (and his wife Caroline) of Orange; four grandchildren, Shjon Louis James Best, Scott Benjamin William Best, Sarja May Clare Best, and Susan Virginia Alaine Best; and two step-grandchildren, Emily Rebecca Newton, and Elizabeth Colleen Newton.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, December 23, 2024, at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
