James Atwell (Jimmy) Mayo, 86, of Schuyler, passed away at his home on Monday, December 2, 2024. Born April 1, 1938, he was the son of the late Charles and Cora Mayo. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Jean Purvis Mayo, sisters, Louise Critzer, Evelyn Ripley, and Barbara Commins, and brothers, Merritt Mayo, Marion Mayo, Charles Mayo, Jr., and Harold Mayo. He is survived by his daughter, Lisa M. Miller, and her husband Tim, of Schuyler, one brother, B.G. Mayo, and his wife Shirley, of Charlottesville, many beloved nieces and nephews, and very special friends, Clara Wray of Schuyler, and Paul and Judy Wilkerson of Schuyler.
Jimmy loved spending time outdoors. Earlier in life, he leased a cabin on Fan Mountain in Albemarle County and enjoyed many years of hunting with his brothers and nephews. In 1992, he retired from Comdial Corporation and began a lawn-cutting business which he ran for over 30 years.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, 7850 Scottsville Road, Scottsville, VA 24590, with Pastor David Morris officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the church.
