James P. Mitchell

James P. Mitchell, 91, of Scottsville, died May 12, 2021.  He was born in Cabel County, WV, the son of the late Elgan and Lillian Mitchell. 

He is survived by his wife, Shirley; two daughters, Leslie and Jamie; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Tessie and Emmaline; a half-sister, Annie; three brothers, Elgan, Lynn, and John; and a half-brother, Nathan. 

James was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and retired from the Virginia Department of Corrections as a Regional Administrator.  He had also served as Warden of the State Penitentiary in Richmond.  

In honor of James' wishes, there will be no visitation or formal service.  Interment will be private.
