Janice Fox Campbell Obituary

Janice Marie Fox Campbell “Pookie,” 67, of Charlottesville, went to be with the Lord on Friday, April 25, 2025, at the University of Virginia Medical Center.

She was born on January 5, 1958, in Charlottesville, daughter of the late James William and Shirley Mae (Taylor) Fox.

Janice leaves behind her fiancé, Howard “Bo” Shaffer, whom she loved & adored; a loving daughter, Christina Leigh Spicer ( Angel); one loving sister, Brenda Robertson (Roger); loving brother, Jimmy Fox, who lived with her for many years and always held a special place in her heart. Pookie loved her baby brother and sister so much. She also leaves behind the light of her life, her grandbabies, Faith Leighann Spicer (Baylor) and Brooke Ashleigh Spicer; two niece’s, Tina Chapman & Lauren Fox; a nephew, Roger T. Robertson; many great nieces and nephews; one great-great nephew; special friends, Mark Benson (her fishing buddy), Karen Layton, Connie Frazier, Karen Crawford, and Jackie Shifflett; and so many other wonderful friends. She loved them all.

Pookie was a devoted mother and Maw-Maw.  She loved attending her granddaughter Brooke’s softball games and was known as the softball Maw-Maw, always cheering the girls on. She never missed a game and no matter how far she had to go, she would be there. Pookie loved to spend time at the casino with her sister Brenda and attending the local Bingo hall with friends.  Camping at Monroe Campground was her happy place and she loved fishing and spending time with the many friends she had there. She was a lifetime member at Belmont Baptist Church and was a Belmont Girl. To know her is to love her. Pookie always spoke her mind, never sugar coating anything. She will be deeply missed and loved forever.

A graveside service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at Holly Memorial Gardens. Dress casual as Pookie would want you to be comfortable.
