Joey Lee Payne, 57, of Schuyler unexpectedly passed away on May 16, 2025, at his home with his loving wife by his side.
Joey was native of Fluvanna County. Born on August 4, 1967, to Ernest O’Brien and Muriel (Proffitt) O’Brien.
Joey was someone who liked to stay busy. He loved to work on cars. He worked as a construction and auto technician. Specifically, he enjoyed painting cars. Even having some of his work featured in magazines.
Joey leaves behind his beloved wife of 37 years, Rebecca A. (Wood) Payne of Schuyler; their son Matthew Payne and his wife, Dana of Tennessee; their daughter, Rebecca Jo Payne and her husband, Matt of Esmont. He also leaves behind his mother, Muriel O’Brien, his grandchildren, Kylie, Ian, Daniella, Klaire, Krislyn, Kooper, Khloe, Kaidyn, Kaitlyn, Kailee and Annelynn; his two brothers, Ernie O'Brien and his wife, Tracy, Terry O'Brien and his wife Rhonda and his three sisters, Katie Cochran and her husband, Tubs, Tammy O'Brien and her husband, David and Susie Taylor. In addition to his family, Joey leaves behind his dear friends for over 25 years, Wayne and Jackie Gentry. All who will miss him dearly.
In accordance with Joey’s wishes, there will be no formal services at this time. Joey will be cremated and released into the river so he can “keep on travelin’.”
