John Harris Layne

John Harris Layne, 94, of Scottsville, passed away Saturday, March 30, 2024, at his home.

He was born March 17, 1930, in Albemarle County to the late John Eugene Layne and Edna Davis Layne.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, James Layne, Robert Martin Layne and Julian Layne, and two sisters, Frances Layne Washburn (Frank) and Ella Louise Daniel (Charles).

He is survived by his one and only loving wife of 23 years, Karlen Haislip Layne, two sisters-in-law, Shirley Layne and Doris McKamey and numerous nieces and nephews.

Working three full-time jobs simultaneously, John retired after 34 years of service as an Albemarle County School Bus Driver, and 23 years of service with Albemarle County Service Authority. He loved farming and gardening and farmed full-time his whole life. He was a member of Scottsville Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon.

A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at Thacker Brothers Scottsville Chapel with Pastor Richard Van Arsdale officiating.  Interment will be private.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at Thacker Brothers Scottsville Funeral Home.

The family would like to give special thanks to B.L. Powell, Greg Hutchinson, Steve Cobb, David Dienner, and Bruce Brayman for their assistance.  They would also like to thank Hospice of the Piedmont for their care.
