Julian Layne Obituary

Julian Davis Layne, 90, of Scottsville, passed away on Sunday March 10, 2024.  Julian grew up in his family home in Hatton, Virginia and was the youngest son of the late John Eugene Layne and Edna Davis Layne.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers James Edwin Layne and Robert Martin Layne; and two sisters Frances Layne Washburn and Ella Louise Daniel.

Julian is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Shirley Davis Layne.  He is also survived by one brother John Harris Layne and his wife Karlen Layne; one sister-in-law Doris McKamey; three children Jennifer Sue Layne, Sandy Kay Layne and her husband Carl Moyer, and Scott Eugene Layne and his husband Matt Litchfield; one granddaughter Morgan Ashley Layne-Hippert;  one great-grandson Tucker Fulton Laidler, Tucker’s father Paul Laidler; and several nieces and nephews.

During his lifetime he was an avid farmer and knew everything about gardening and raising cattle.  He always enjoyed sharing his crop with friends, family and the community.

Prior to his health declining, Julian served as a deacon of the Fox Memorial Baptist Church and served on the building and grounds committee.  He was a kind and thoughtful gentleman and cared a great deal for others.

The family would like to issue a heartfelt  thank you to all of the close friends and neighbors who have visited and provided  many acts of kindness and love during the last few years.

Special thanks to Legacy Hospice and Care Advantage aids who assisted the family during the hospice period.

A private memorial service will be held for family members.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Fox Memorial Baptist Church, 2847 West River Road, Scottsville, VA 24590.
