Lawrence Everette Russell

Lawrence Everette Russell, 86, of Scottsville, Virginia entered eternal rest peacefully at his home
in Scottsville, VA on Friday, February 10, 2023.
 

Lawrence was born November 28, 1936 at the home of his grandmother in Scottsville, Virginia. He
was the son of the late Lawrence W. Russell and Viola B. (Russell) Peck and stepfather, Thomas
Peck. He’s preceded in death by his grandparents, Arthur and Ernestine Burrell and Lawrence J.
and Nannie Russell; his sister, Joy Renee Adam Parson and two Brother-in-laws, Edward Adams
and Robert Parson and a loving and adorable dog, Snickers.
 

He worked at several jobs, but the ones that stood out were the Homestead Hotel in Hot Springs,
Virginia, The Greenbrier Hotel in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia and Uniroyal Goodrich
Tire in Scottsville, VA, from where he retired after almost forty years of service. Surprisingly,
when he worked at Uniroyal, he worked with his wife, Jean, on the same swing shift, ate lunch
and rode together to and from work.

Lawrence was a gentle and quiet person, but willing to do anything for you. He loved being out
in the yard cutting grass and or just sitting on the steps enjoying the sunshine with his dog
Snickers. He joined the Union Baptist Church in Scottsville, Virginia at an early age where in
later years he became a trustee willing to do his part. He was always there to see that the
doors were open and closed until his health kept him from going.

Lawrence leaves to cherish his memories a devoted wife of 64 years, Jean Lucille Miller Russell,
his oldest daughter, Rosalind Johnson (Ralph) of Scottsville, VA, his son, Lawrence Michael
Russell (Mary) of Eastvale, CA, and youngest daughter, Tina Brice (Leslie) of Palmyra, VA. His two
grandchildren Ralph A. Johnson and his fiancée Leah Redieske of Scottsville, and Reanna
Nguyen (Kevin) of Charlottesville, VA. A host of other relatives and close friends that kept check
on him.

A funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Friday, February 17th, 2023  at Union Baptist Church, 275
Hardware St., Scottsville, VA 24590.

The burial will take place at Union Baptist Church Cemetery immediately following the service.

Thacker Brothers Scottsville Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
